Director meets Doctor On Organ Donation

Date: November 27, 2015

Place: Bellevue Clinic

Of the many programs for the awareness on deceased organ donation organized by the members of the Bimal Karmakar Foundation, one was held in the Seminar Hall of Bellevue Clinic Late November of 2015. The main topic of discussion of the day: how to popularize deceased organ donation in the state of West Bengal.

We had the opportunity to bring together several eminent individuals e.g. Dr. S.K. Biswas, the head of Department of Nephrology at Bellevue Dr. A.R. Nandi, Dr. Pratim Sengupta, Dr. Himanshu Das Mahapatra, Critical Care specialist Dr. Saurabh Kole, along with many other doctos, sisters and others of the medical staff along with advocate Mr. Supriya Majumder. But the one name that stands out amongst all is that of film director, Mr. Srijit Mukhopadhyay.

Mr. Srijit Mukhopadhyay addresses the audience to put forward his views related to the cause of organ donation

While the individual speakers presented the topic of organ donation from the perspective of doctor and a medical personnel, Mr. Mukhopadhyay emphasized more on the acute necessity to spread awareness about the cause: what is organ donation? Why do we need to promote and support deceased organ donation? What is the taboos that stop one from accepting and supporting the movement as a whole? But most importantly, why one needs to come forward and pledge to be a donor.

The topic of organ donation is multifaceted, not only within the medical fraternity, but also without it. And only through the collaborative efforts of people from various walks of life can we hope to spread awareness about our cause. We, from the Bimal Karmakar Foundation, look forward to the whole-hearted support of Mr. Mukhopadhyay in the future as well.
